The first public appearance of the ex Democratic rivals, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, took place in a town called Unity, New Hampshire.
"Hello, Unity!" Mrs Clinton said with Mr Obama sitting beside her. "Well, Unity is not only a beautiful place as we can see, it's a wonderful feeling, isn't it? And I know when we start here in this field in unity, we'll end on the steps of the Capitol when Barack Obama takes the oath of office as our next president."
After a protracted and sometimes bitter primary campaign with Mr Obama, Mrs Clinton said that Republican Party probably hoped she would not join forces with the Illinois Senator.
"But I've got news for them: We are one party, we are one America and we are not going to rest until we take back our country and put it once again on the path to peace, prosperity and progress in the 21st century," Mrs Clinton said.
She encouraged her supporters to join with him "to create an unstoppable force for change we can all believe in." Mr Obama in turn told the crowd that he, the Democrats, and the American people need both Hillary and her husband, the former president Bill Clinton, on board to change the nation.

Poland's President Lech Kaczynski has not signed the EU's Reform Treaty at present, following its defeat in an Irish referendum last month. He said it would be "pointless" to sign the Lisbon Treaty, even though Poland's parliament has ratified it. Although the Polish parliament ratified the treaty in April, it still needs the signature of the president. All 27 EU members must ratify the document. Mr Kaczynski was speaking as France took over the EU's rotating presidency.
The Polish Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, is in conflict with the President. He said: "I hope the president will re-consider this position. I have no doubt that the treaty's ratification is in Poland's best interest."
Mr Kaczynski has joined his Czech counterpart in openly opposing treaty ratification.
German President Horst Koehler has also delayed ratification. Mr Kaczynski warned EU members not to pressure Ireland to find a solution.
"If one breaks the rule of unanimity one time, it will never exist again," he said.
